Do not continue to try to manage your depression or anxiety alone. There is help available and you do not have to continue to suffer daily with these pains. Depression doesn’t always “just go away” and you may not be able to “deal with it”. Are others telling you to “Just be happy!” or “Can’t you see how blessed you are?”. Is it hard to find joy in everyday life? It is difficult to see or feel the joys of life when you are stuck under a dark cloud of depression. With depression, you might have also noticed changes in your sleep and/or appetite. Sleeping too little or not enough, early waking, or feeling like you could sleep all day.
Anxiety can be just a debilitating. Have others said, “Just relax” or “You have nothing to worry about”. These things might be well-intentioned, but are of little help to patients with anxiety. With anxiety, everyday tasks can feel like a monumental chore, including simple tasks as making a phone call. Patients with anxiety tend to relive social moments over and over, analyzing whether they said “the right thing”. Sleep might be difficult, because you keep playing scenarios in your head over and over.
